KITARO concert

On 23 October 2008, in the tightly-crowded Badminton theatre, the BCA Fund, in collaboration with IMEPO (Hellenic Migration Policy Institute) and under the auspices of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture and the Municipality of Athens, very successfully organised the audiovisual super show “Love and Peace”, featuring one of the top musicians of the world, the famous Japanese composer and BCA Fund Goodwill Ambassador KITARO. On 22 October, the President of the Fund Mrs. Aspasia Leventis organised an official dinner at Politia Tennis Club to honour KITARO and Stavros Georgiannos, M.D., Ph.D., Oncology and Vascular Surgeon, informed the guests about recent developments in breast cancer. The evening was hosted by the famous Greek actor Thodoris Atheridis. kitaro-afisa-largeHis awards include 1 Grammy, 11 candidacies for Grammy and 1 Golden Globe. The great musicians, with 38 albums and sales of 100,000,000 records, has been proclaimed “International Artist for the Protection of Environment” on the occasion of the Millennium and performed for the first time in Greece.

The concert of Kitaro on Thursday, 23 October 2008 in Athens, in Badminton theatre, was his first performance in Greece, with all its implications from an artistic and communicative point of view. The concert, which lasted for 2.5 hours, comprised two parts: the first part included a musical retrospective of the overall work of the great Japanese composer and musician and the second part included a presentation of his new album “Kitaro’s Sacred Journey 3”, which is candidate for a Grammy award. The work is inspired from the Buddhist tradition and, according to Kitaro’s dear habit, was performed using modern electronic and traditional acoustic instruments. 

Computers and synthesizers next to traditional Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese wind and stringed instruments, ancient “gongs” and Buddhist bells. Special lights, special effects, film projections, all contributed to the exquisite outcome of this concert. “A spectacular show with a soul!” At the end of the concert, Kitaro talked to the audience, expressed his joy for having managed to come to Greece for the first time to contribute to the attainment of the purposes of a very important organization and said that he will be at the Fund’s disposal in the future.

The proceeds of the concert were donated to the BREAST CANCER ACTION FUND.   DINNER AT POLITIA TENNIS CLUB On Wednesday 22 October, the President of the BCA Fund Mrs. Aspasia Leventis organised a very successful official dinner at Politia Tennis Club to honour KITARO, one of the top musicians of the world.

During this moving evening, the president offered Kitaro a piece of jewelry bearing the Fund’s emblem, created by the world-known artist Kostas Varotsos. He, in turn, offered his kimono. Moreover, Stavros Georgiannos, M.D., Ph.D., Oncology and Vascular Surgeon, informed the guests about recent developments in Breast cancer diagnosis and treatment , as October is the international breast cancer information month. The evening was presented by the famous Greek actor Thodoris Atheridis.
