The Breast Cancer Action Fund has donated an intraoperative sentinel node detection gamma probe (radioguided surgery) to the General Oncological Hospital of Kifissia “Agioi Anargyroi” thus fulfilling the relevant request made by the hospital’s Department of Nuclear Medicine.
The intraoperative probe is absolutely necessary for radioisotope detection of the sentinel node, namely the first lymph node to present metastatic infiltration, whose identification and removal is critical for the determination of the surgical procedure to be followed. The intraoperative gamma radiation probe is also necessary for the treatment of other neoplasias such as malignant melanoma.
Delivery of the diagnostic machine took place on April 30, 2015 by the President of the Fund Mrs. Aspasia Leventis and the Fund’s Scientific Director Oncologist-Surgeon Dr. Stavros Georgiannos. The Minister of Health Mr. Panagiotis Kouroumplis was present at the time of reception.
